#HumansOfFyreflyz (ft. Bjorn and Wynn)

We’re two months down ’till the end of 2017!! What have you achieved so far?
For the past few years, Fyreflyz has been housing interns from different polytechnics to impart knowledge and skills but at the same time, to learn from them.
This time, we have two interns from Ngee Ann and two from Temasek Polytechnic! This #HOF is dedicated to the best bros from NP, Bjorn and Wynn!

Bjorn and Wynn have known each other since year 1 and have been in the same project group and internship program since then. Let’s hear what they have to say!

1.  What were the first 3 things that you thought of when you think of the word “internship”?

Wynn: Stress because I just came back from a hectic semester, and all I wanted to do was to rest and enjoy my holidays. Weirdly, also excited because it was my first office job and I always wanted to experience what that was like. Lastly, nervous as I’m usually really bad with new people.
Bjorn: The first 3 things that came to my mind were saigangcheap labour, and shred paper because of the past experience of my friends.

2. What was your first impression of Fyreflyz?

Wynn: My first impression of Fyreflyz was that it was quite a trendy and cool place to work. I felt that they are the office of future because I went online to check out their Instagram and other social media accounts and saw that they were not your typical type of company.  So I was sort of glad as I knew it wouldn’t be boring.
Bjorn: My first impression of Fyreflyz was that it was a young, vibrant and modern company because of their social media account activities.

3. Would you recommend Fyreflyz’s internship program to the next batch?

Wynn: I would definitely recommend this internship program to the next batch.

Because I feel that working here you won’t be neglected no matter what your weaknesses are as long as you are willing to learn and improve.

The people here would guide you and improve together with you. They would definitely have something here for you to learn.

Bjorn: I would recommend Fyreflyz to the next batch as Fyreflyz does many things such as marketing, designing and programming and it would help the interns find out what they like and what they are good at. It is good also because if they are not capable at one component, they can try out other stuff.

4. What do you hope to achieve at the end of your internship?

Wynn: From this internship I hope to improve my design skills because most of the tasks that I have been given were design based.  As I had no design background, I had to learn from scratch. I am thankful that the people here were patient with me and were willing to teach me whenever I had any difficulty.
Bjorn: I hope that I will remember the things I have learnt here and apply them in my daily life and also to keep the friends I made here.
5. Do you think having an internship is necessary?
Wynn: Yes, I think having internship is necessary as it gives you the first taste of the outside world. This is really important as it gives you a platform to make as many mistakes and improve yourself before entering a real job in the future. It prepares you on how to tackle as many challenges that lie ahead. I am thankful to have gone through this experience.
Bjorn: I think that having an internship is necessary and important as it helps students experience the real working world.

At the same time, allowing them to make mistakes and learn from it.

Lastly, it helps them find out what they like or dislike doing and expand their horizon.

6. After being friends since Year 1, what are the perks and disadvantages (if any) of working together?

Wynn and Bjorn: One of the perks is that we have similar working style and that we are on the same communication frequency. This allows us to have fun while working together. Understanding each other’s working style and knowing when is the optimal time to work together are very important.

Because we already click well and we already have the relationship, the disadvantage is that it’s hard to include other people into our team as we have to accommodate to that person.
