#HumansOfFyreflyz (ft. Corey)
Hello there! 🙂
It’d be nice if you would ask yourself “How am I doing?” from time to time, just like how you would to your friends and loved ones.
Life may seem like a drag, and more so a hurdle with never-ending to-do lists and tasks. But sometimes, all you need to do is take a step back and remember to breathe (take deep breaths).
Smile, laugh, be silly, whatever!
You probably wish there is someone like that for you out there. Someone who livens up your day with their bright smiles, laughter and sometimes, with their silly antics. If you ever meet a person like that, hold them close.
Thankfully for us, we have someone just like that- Corey. The office has brightened up even more with her presence! A frank and amicable individual, she’s been here for over a month as an Events Assistant and adapting well to our Fyreflyz Fam!
If seeing/hearing her laughter doesn’t make you laugh, we don’t know what else will.
Read on to find out more about Corey, and how it’s been like working with Fyreflyz thus far.
1. What was your childhood dream?
My childhood dream was to be an underwater photo-journalist. I think it originated from watching a lot of Animal Planet when I was younger. I was probably influenced by my dad, a seasoned diver, who often showed me photos and videos taken underwater. Being exposed to a wide range of water activities such as snorkelling while growing up, it was then I knew how beautiful the seabed is.
Eventually, after learning how to dive, it was literally a whole new world. I would recommend everyone to learn it if they can!
2. What’s the best thing that happened to you ever since joining Fyreflyz?
Definitely the new food places that I’ve discovered during my lunch breaks with everyone! That, as well as meeting and working with open-minded colleagues.
I believe that if one is unsure about something, they should seek to clarify. Also, I believe in speaking my mind and providing input as a team, as well as having a devil’s advocate in team discussions. I understand that some people who don’t think the same way might get offended.
Being in a new setting and environment, I was initially afraid to ask many questions so as to not annoy my colleagues – although I’m usually not afraid of asking questions (stupid or not). However, my colleagues were helpful and taught me what I needed to know, and beyond. Like what my colleague, Audrey, puts it, “there are no smart questions, only stupid questions”.
I’m grateful and lucky to be working alongside them.
3. In your view, what are some common stereotypes of creative professionals? Has this perception changed after joining Fyreflyz and why?
I don’t have any stereotype/perception of creative professionals as I haven’t had enough experience in a creative company to form a stereotypical image, nor have I talked much to professionals who are working or have worked in creative companies.
As such, I’d assume that the company has a lot of designers and artists, but nothing beyond that.
However, after interacting with my colleagues in Fyreflyz, I found that each and every individual has their own unique personalities and working styles.
“I think that’s an advantage as when placed together in a situation, everyone is able to provide different perspectives and we can all learn from one another.”
4. Share with us the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time.
I think nerdy is subjective. But if I have to share one, it’d be reading in my spare time? Hahaha. Whenever I have small pockets of time, I’ll try to get off my phone and read instead. Other than reading, I love catching up on episodes I missed on “The Walking Dead”, and watching other channels on YouTube. Other things I do in my spare time is photography (but rarely now), look for festivals and events to attend, and promotions on flight tickets!
