Meet the new intern of
#HumansofFyreflyz
We prepared a few questions about them to find out how they are adapting here at Fyreflyz! Let’s see what they say!
Looking back on your first week at Fyreflyz, what stood out the most?
Azim:
- My initial thoughts were that it seemed like a normal and chill office environment that was quite professional in their work. However, amid the peace, there was chaos but it was warm and cozy, it felt like a family. It was an environment that promoted chaos and let breed inspiration and creativity mixed with professionalism that exuded a charisma that was not prevalent in my previous job experiences and I love every second of it.
Ian:
- When I first joined Fyreflyz, I was taken aback by how the team was able to bond together and have fun outside of doing work. The culture felt really different from what I expected—there was no gossip or drama, just genuine connections. Everyone treated each other like family, and that sense of unity really stood out to me.
Tian Qi:
- From the very first day, what struck me most was the authenticity of the culture. At Fyreflyz, purpose isn’t just something written on the walls—it’s lived out in every interaction. I was immediately welcomed into an environment where people were not only passionate about their work but also intentional in how they showed up for one another. I expected to learn skills; I didn’t expect to feel so invested, so quickly.
Yi Cheng:
- Fyreflyz immediately felt like a truly special and unconventional place, unlike any other workplace. There was a unique energy in the way people interacted—open, grounded, and built on trust. The culture stood out right away, not just through words but through actions. It wasn’t a typical top-down environment. Instead, it felt collaborative, people-centered, and intentional. That first impression reshaped all expectations of what an internship experience could look like.
What’s something unexpected you’ve learned about yourself or the way you work since joining Fyreflyz?
Azim:
- I learned that I was surprisingly a perfectionist and someone that craved organisation. I am the project manager for Fyreflyz and the role has taught me to be organised and to keep to time constraints so that we are on track with our projects and clients. It’s taxing but a fun experience for someone that enjoys organisation and leading the team to achieve KPIs. It showed me that internships are not only for gaining knowledge but to also go through real-life job scenarios that are useful in the future when stepping into the workforce.
Ian:
- I used to procrastinate a lot and found it hard to stay motivated. But after spending some time here at Fyreflyz, I started observing how others approached their work. I’ve learned that it feels so much better to just finish what I need to do first—then I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day. It’s a shift that’s changed how I think about work in general. Being part of a social enterprise also showed me that work can have purpose beyond just tasks—it can create impact.
Tian Qi:
- I’ve discovered that I’m most energized when my work is connected to a larger purpose. Being part of a social enterprise like Fyreflyz—where creativity meets community impact—taught me that meaningful work isn’t just about deadlines or deliverables. It’s about the change we enable. This experience has shifted how I see internships: not just as training grounds, but as spaces to grow into who you want to become. I’ve learned to lead with intention, take ownership, and find fulfillment in collaboration.
Yi Cheng:
- One thing I’ve unexpectedly learned about myself at Fyreflyz is that I’m more of a listener than a thinker. As a Tech Intern, I used to feel pressured to always come up with solutions on my own. But I’ve realized that by listening to others — their ideas, approaches, even their mistakes — I open myself up to perspectives I wouldn’t have considered. Especially when I struggle with design creativity or hit technical roadblocks, it’s through conversations that I discover more efficient and thoughtful solutions. Being in a social enterprise has made this even more powerful, because the culture here values shared growth. It’s not just about what I can build, but what we can build by learning from each other.
If you had to describe the team culture in three words, what would they be—and why those words?
Azim:
- The three words I would use would be “chaos among peace“. Why I chose those words is because the chaos of being with colleagues that I can call my friends, being casual and having fun while working brings me joy and peace to a somewhat stressful industry. Our culture is essentially us being a family that can have fun and be there for one another while also keeping the professionalism that is to be expected in a well established company.
Ian:
- Chill – Everyone is really comfortable with one another, which makes the environment laid-back and easy to work in. It helps with having a good workflow too.
- Chaotic – Not in a bad way! Things can move quickly and unexpectedly—like “do this, now do that”—but somehow, it all works. There’s a structure underneath the chaos, and it really fits the way I think and work.
- Caring – People here genuinely listen and give thoughtful advice. You can tell everyone truly cares about each other, and that makes a huge difference.
Tian Qi:
- Purposeful – Every project, conversation, and decision is anchored in meaning. There’s clarity in why we do what we do.
- Empowering – Regardless of your role, you’re trusted to lead, to contribute, and to grow. That belief in people is rare—and powerful.
- Human – Beyond the work, it’s the people who define this place. There’s warmth, humility, and a deep sense of care woven into the culture.
.
Yi Cheng:
- Unique – The culture at Fyreflyz is unlike anything I’ve seen. It’s rare to find a workplace, especially a social enterprise, that genuinely invests in helping both individuals and communities grow. Here, personal interests and growth are not just supported—they’re encouraged.
- Trust – No one feels alone at Fyreflyz. There’s a strong sense of mutual support, where everyone has each other’s back. Whether it’s in day-to-day tasks or long-term goals, trust is deeply embedded in how the team works together.
- Prideful – There is a strong sense of purpose and pride in the work being done. Fyreflyz is committed to making a real impact, especially in the lives of students and underprivileged youth. That pride shows up in the way the team works—with heart, intention, and a drive to create better futures.
