#HumansOfFyreflyz (ft. Qiao Yee) fyreflyz blog, December 27, 2019September 25, 2023 We’re nearing the end of 2019! For our last #HumansOfFyreflyz feature for the year, we introduce Qiao Yee, who has been with us for 3.5 months. After graduating from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in May 2019, Qiao Yee decided to join us for an internship before pursuing her Degree in Marketing. She enjoys watching vlogs on YouTube, listening to live music and getting her weekly dose of Bubble Tea. Read on to find out more about Qiao Yee’s experience with us as an Events Intern! Tell us how you landed your internship with Fyreflyz. QY: My first step to landing my internship with Fyreflyz was through a Self-Discovery process. Knowing what I wanted to do and what I had studied was different, I knew it was time to step out of my comfort zone to try new things. That was when I decided on looking for an internship which will help me find out what exactly I wanted for a career, and to create the foundation for my future career. I knew it was time to step out of my comfort zone to try new things. Secondly, I was another step closer to this internship when I spoke to some friends to ask for advice on my internship journey. I chanced upon Fyreflyz when an ex-classmate shared her experiences with me (click here to read Joey’s #HOFF!) and recommended that I try my internship here! You will never know what the possibilities are until you go out there and ask. Thirdly, I convinced myself to step out of my comfort zone and never be afraid to face rejections, though rejection is a part of life. As quoted from Elon Musk, “The first step is to establish that something is possible; then probability will occur”. With that in mind, I made sure to keep an open mind during my application process, use my past experiences and make sure it reflects the characteristics and needs for the internship. The one final step was the way I presented myself during the interview. They say that first impressions are the most important step to kick start a new journey, therefore, I made sure that I did some research about Fyreflyz before I went for the interview. During my interview process, I was as genuine as possible, showed that I really wanted this internship and that I’m willing to work hard for this. That was how I landed my internship with Fyreflyz! What are the first 3 things that you think of when you hear the word “internship”? And have you experienced it in Fyreflyz? QY: The first 3 things that I thought of when I think of about internship are: 1) To gain experience. 2) A gauge to see if I find a sense of belonging in this Industry and if this is what I love doing, so that I won’t dread going to work every morning. 3) Doors of Opportunities Definitely! Thanks to the opportunities, I have decided on pursuing a degree in this industry before doing this in the long run. Within my 2.5 months of internship, I was exposed to more than 3 different types of events. In every event, I takeaway something and apply it onto the next event. Now give us 3 things that you loved about your internship in Fyreflyz! QY: 3 things that I loved about my internship: 1) The People. As corny and mainstream it is, colleagues and peers matters a lot at work. With great coworkers, there will never be a dull day at work. Coworkers help to make work much more bearable when things get tough because I know, everyone is in this together. 2) It isn’t just another typical “Internship”. Typical School Internship can be defined as an unfulfilling, tedious work process that does not benefit you with a minimum wage. However, interning at Fyreflyz was more than that. I was exposed to many events and given the opportunity to take charge and lead. The experiences that I have gained in my time here is invaluable. 3) A Sense of Belonging. Getting this internship was an unexpected addition to my life as this was not what I pursued for my diploma. Upon landing, I found myself loving what I do, and something that I can actually excel in. This internship made me realise what I’m capable of doing, and where I should continue heading. What is something you cannot live without (while working in Fyreflyz)? Why? QY: My Jacket! From where I’m currently seated at, I get best of the both worlds – I am strategically seated between two air-conditioners. Half of the time, I am wrapped up in my jacket, which also means I can probably wear the same shirt for a whole week but no one will realise it! HAHA Would you recommend this internship to your friends? QY: I would recommend this to my friends who are really passionate about the marketing events industry and open-minded people who don’t mind trying out new things. This is because when the events are back to back, things usually get hectic. Therefore, it is really important to be able to work under pressure and stay calm. This internship is all about being able to multitask and work independently on the instructions being given. Good luck and have fun at school next year, Qiao Yee! Archive Uncategorized
